Local researchers Russel Barsh and Madrona Murphy talk about the things that each of us can do in our own lives and around our own homes to take better care of the plants and animals that make our island special. This month they continue a series of shows on special public lands on Lopez with Iceberg Point. They will talk about how humans helped shape the diversity at Iceberg and how to get involved in shaping its future.

KLOI introduces a new program, “Stories and Events from Lopez Nonprofits”, with an interview with Mikah Smith and Rachel MacSlarrow . Mikah is a new staff person at the Lopez Family Resource Center and Rachel is the Ameri-Corps volunteer there. They will focus our attention on the need for additional mentors and an overview of what the mentor program at the Family Resource Center is about. Hear what some of our young people are doing in this world to be of service and how they are making a difference in this Community.

A monthly half hour organic gardening show with hosts, Jeanie Flynn and Anne Whirledge Karp, focused on sharing ideas for nurturing and enhancing your gardening practices. The show airs as a live broadcast on the first Wednesday of the month at 12:00 PM and rebroadcasts on subsequent Wednesdays.

For the month of September Jeanie and Anne will talk with guest Ana Malinoff of Greenheart Gardens located on Lopez Island. Her seed company specializes in unusual heirloom plant varieties for Northwest gardening enthusiasts with a unique selection of herbs, veggies, and rare perennials. The topic for discussion will be, of course all about seeds.
